Thakur  Junior College  was  establised  in 1992 in  order to  cater to the need  of  students passing  SSC  examination from  schools  in  and  around  Kandivali, including  those  from  Thakur  Vidya  Mandhir  which  has  already  establised  itself  as  one  of the leading  schools  in the  area ( also  started  Junior  college  from  2008-2009  in  Science  &  Commerce  streams) starting  with  an  initial  strength  of  56  students in  one  division  of  F.Y.J.C. (Commerce) class  in  1992,  the  College  witnessed  a  spectacular  growth  over  the  years.  Currently  the  Junior  College   accommodates  about  5,580 students in  Commerce  and  Science  streams  together and   has  become  one of  the leading  in  the  city  of  Mumbai.  It  has  posted  constantly good  results  at  the  H.S.C.(Std.XIIth) examinations  in  Commerce  and  Science  in  the  past few years. Recently  our  student Miss  Bala  Divya  Chandrakant  Vanita  has  been  awarded  with  a scholarship  by  the   Government  of   Maharashtra  for  securing  first  position  in  Science   in  H .S .C. Examination  held  in  the  March, 2010.

As  a  natural  consequence  of  the  immense  confidence  reposed  by  the  students  and  their  parents  in  the  Junior  college, the  Degree  section  was  established  in  1997  in  order to  provide  continuity  in  their  pursuit  of  higher  education. The  Thakur  College  of  Science &  Commerce  with   a  latest  total  strength  of  5952  students (Degree  alone)  on  its  roll  is  already  making  its  bench  mark  in  the  field  of  academics  with  its  good  results  in  all  the University  examinations.  (Our  students  stood  at  the  T.Y.BSc.(IT)  examination  held  in  May,  2005, second  rank  at  the  T.Y.BSc.(IT)  examination  held  in  the  April , 2006, eighth  rank  at  T.Y.B.Sc. (Maths.)  exam  held  in  May,  2006, second  rank  at  the  T.Y.B.Sc.(Zoology) exam, held  in  April, 2007,  first  and  second  rank  at  the  T.Y.B.Sc.( Physics) exam,  respectively  held  in  April, 2008, second  rank  at  T.Y.B.Sc.(Botany)  exam , held  in   April, 2008, Third  rank  at  T.Y.B.Sc. (C. S.)  exam, held  in  March, 2009,  and  seventh  rank  at  T. Y.B.Sc. (Maths.)  exam, held  in  March, 2009, and  seventh  rank  at  T.Y.B.Sc.  (Maths.)  exam, held  in  April, 2010. Our  College  represents  every  year  in  the  sports  and  extra  curricular  activities  not  only  at  the  University  and  state  level  but  also  at  National & International  level.

Our  College  has  been  recently  Reaccredited  in  January, 2011,  with  Grade  ‘A’ (CGPA  3. 10)  by  the  National  Assessment  and  Accreditation  Council  (NAAC)  an  Autonomous  Institution  of  the  University  Grants  Commission . To  further  enhance  the  career  of  our  students, six  specialized  Master’s  degree  courses  have  been  introduced  in  the  college.  Thakur  College  of  Science  &  Commerce  has  already  formed  a  nucleus  for  a  vibrant  educational  campus  with  Thakur  College  of   Engineering  & Technology, Thakur Institute  of  Management  Studies  and  Research,  Thakur  Institute  of  Management  Studies, Career  Development  &  Research (MCA)  spread  over  few  acres  of  campus  in  Kandivali (East).
