
The
Department of Zoology, Thakur College of Science & Commerce, Kandivali (E)
organized a 2 days "National Conference on Environmental Pollution & Toxicology"
on 22nd & 23rd December 06 as a part of academic programme of the
sesquicentennial celebrations of the University of Mumbai in collaboration with
the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.
The event received a tremendous response from researchers, teachers" & post
graduate students across the country. A total of 306 delegates, including 96 out
station delegates
attended the conference and presented 86 research papers in nine Technical
Sessions covering the areas such as. 1. Metal / Non-Metal Toxicity
2. Pesticide Toxicity
3. General Toxicity
4. Hydrocarbons
5. Urbanization, Human Activity & Safe Disposal of waste
6. Industrial Pollution & Bioremediation
Dr. Vijay Khole, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai inaugurated the
conference on 22nd December 2006. Dr. A. D. Sawant, Pro Vice Chancellor,
University of Nanded were the Guests of Honour. The Vice Chancellor spoke about
the relevance & timeless of the theme of the conference. He also elaborated upon
the plan of action the new initiatives to be taken by the University in the
sesquicentennial year.
Dr. M. D. Zingde, Deputy Director, N.I.O. Regional Centre, Mumbai delivered the
keynote address on "Environmental Status of Coastal Zone of India." He discussed
at length the role of anthropogenic activities in the global climate change &
its effects on mankind.
The valedictory address was given by Dr. Vishwas Chavan, Scientist NCL, Pune
Environmental Informatics", an emerging thrust area in the field of
Environmental Conversation & Biodiversity.
Dr. Vitthal Mohite was the Organizing Secretary (NCEPT) and treaching staff from
the Junior Biology, Degree Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Computer Science and
Maths had actively participated in the organization of this conference.
